We work constantly to reduce our effects on the environment. From efficient transport logistics to small emissions. Changing stairs can be done with good environmental conscience.
The average emission of carbon dioxide in the manufacturing of a normal lacquered stairway according to analysis and environmental declaration from SP Trätek is about 32.4 kg per stairway. This corresponds to driving a normal family car about 160 kilometres, but the difference compared to car fuel is that wood is carbon-dioxide neutral because it is a renewable raw material.
Recycling The stairs can be recycled when being disposed of. This done mainly by energy recovery. Wood contains a lot of energy and it can be reused. About two percent of the stairs consist of metal in the form of fittings, screws, etc. The metal can be fully recycled.
Sustainable production 94 percent of a normal stairway consists of renewable raw material. Two percent consists of steel fittings which are recyclable, and only four percent has a fossil source. In the entire process from transportation to ready product 88 percent of the energy used is bio fuel and electric power (mainly from environmentally friendly sources, such as hydroelectric power).
