Sustainable environmental work and FSC-certified materials in our stairs
Our factory is located in Norsjö, in the middle of a forest landscape that has shaped our view of the wood craft since the beginning in 1923. Our commitment to the environment permeates every aspect of our business. By following rational and environmentally friendly production methods, we can ensure that we always do our best to contribute to a sustainable industry.
We are constantly working to improve our environmental work, regardless of whether it is about production, materials or products. Whichever staircase you choose from our range, you can be sure that it is a good environmental choice. We select wood species that come from forests, plantations and suppliers who work for sustainable forestry. As part of our environmental work, we only use FSC-marked wood for our products.
The manufacture of a lacquered staircase generates an average of 32.4 kg of carbon dioxide emissions, according to SP Trätek's analysis and environmental declaration. This corresponds to approximately 16 miles of driving in a family car. Unlike the car's fuel, however, wood is carbon dioxide neutral because it is a renewable raw material. When it comes to, for example, printed matter and paper, we try to work with FSC-certified suppliers as much as possible.
Environmental labeling for stairs
Svanen works to help companies change to more sustainable production. It includes i.a. reduced emission of greenhouse gases and to protect the ecosystem from harmful chemicals. In order to receive Nordic Swan certification, the materials must be reviewed and approved. Many of our stairs are registered in the Swan's home builder portal. Basta® is a system based on content limits and reporting requirements, with the aim of phasing out hazardous substances from building and construction products. Criteria are assessed at product level regarding, among other things, health and environmental hazards, renewability and environmental effects. Many of our products are registered in the Basta system.
Most of our products are also assessed in Sunda Hus and Byggvarubedomningen. We are also a member of Repa and the Norwegian equivalent Grøn Punkt.
Efficient transport for reduced climate impact
We have efficient transport logistics with less emissions as a result. We work actively to streamline transport logistics to reduce climate impact. By optimizing transport routes, using fuel-efficient vehicles and coordinating deliveries, we minimize emissions. Our focus on sustainable transport solutions is an important part of our strategy to contribute to a better environment.
Recycling of stairs
Your worn-out staircase can also be recycled, mainly through energy recovery. Wood contains a lot of energy and everything can be reused. Approximately two percent of the stairs consist of metal in the form of fittings, screws etc. which can be completely recycled. As much as 94 percent of an ordinary staircase consists of renewable energy.
